Like any other IP-enabled network, VoIP phone systems are vulnerable to hackers. Security risks in VoIP-based phone systems are on the rise and businesses may lose some serious money from hacker attacks. To provide a security umbrella for VoIP phone systems, VoIP Supply LLC, a North America-based supplier of VoIP equipment and complete solutions, has announced the addition of the AudioCodes (News - Alert) Mediant 800 Enterprise Session Border Controller (E-SBC).
The AudioCodes Mediant 800 E-SBC shields VoIP phone system by casting a first line of defense against malicious attacks. This Enterprise Session Border Controller (E-SBC) serves as a VoIP-specific firewall to protect an IP PBX (News - Alert) from intruders and the Mediant 800 is an essential need for small and medium enterprises (SME).
AudioCodes Mediant 800 can address the convergence of secured voice services, stand-alone survivability, data routing and VoIP security, WAN access, mediation services and service level assurance. It also functions as an enhanced media gateway, providing a wide array of features that includes enhanced dialing plans and voice routing capabilities along with SIP to SIP mediation, which allows SME's to use SIP trunking, IP centrex systems, unified communications, flexible PSTN connectivity as well as connecting legacy PBX's to VoIP.
In addition to providing security shield, the Mediant 800 also provides additional values by bridging the internal VoIP network with the SIP service provider network, acting as a gateway connecting the two protocols. It can also act as the demarcation point between an SME and the VoIP service provider. Further, it can help locating the source of the errors and determine if they belong to the VoIP system or the VoIP service provider.
“The Mediant 800 is a great security addition from AudioCodes who is already a VoIP gateways leader," said Garrett Smith (News - Alert), chief marketing officer at VoIP Supply, in a statement. "The AudioCodes Mediant 800 allows Small and Medium Enterprises to be more productive, efficient, and responsive to their internal users by providing a high level of communication investment protection."
