Since 1999, Activu’s focus has been on exclusively improving intelligent visualization and collaboration in command and control room environments. It recently developed a video case study on its video wall implementation at the Port of Long Beach’s (POLB) command and control center, touted to be the second largest seaport in the United States.

Way back in 2005, the Port of Long Beach, which houses the security division and harbor patrol and other units during emergencies, envisioned a software-driven common security-management platform that would enable staffers to quickly address routine and emergency events. After two years of benchmarking, it chose Activu as it was compatible with POLB's IP network environment.

Needing to seamlessly integrate its diverse technologies, systems and data sources to produce a common operating picture and a video wall that enabled real-time visualization and collaboration with multiple other agencies within the building on all the three floors and outside it, Activu proved to be a perfect fit.

The extensive facility houses interconnected video wall displays in 11 rooms across three floors. Activu reportedly enabled aggregation of data from the center's 14 different systems, is easy to configure, maximizes situational awareness and is capable of expansion to support additional information sources and video displays at marginal cost.

Since the center’s inauguration in February 2009, POLB claims that it has benefited IP-based intelligent visualization and collaboration, reduced capital expenditure on hardware and has apparently overcome the distance limitation while sharing real-time information.

As stated by a member of the port security team in the video case study, POLB won the Government Security News’ award for most notable maritime/port security programming and attributed part of its overall success to a healthy partner-relationship with Activu.

Activu Corporation was recently selected by and successfully installed the Activu system at the Public Service Electric and Gas Company's new command and control room for transmission line monitoring. The gas company is one of the largest electric and gas utilities in the U.S. and also the oldest and largest publicly owned utility in New Jersey serving nearly three-quarters of the state.
