VT iDirect (iDirect), a subsidiary of VT Systems and provider of IP-based satellite communications, announced that IP Access (News - Alert) International, a leading satellite service provider, has selected iDirect Series 15100 Universal Satellite hub to launch its Isis dual-satellite network.

IP Access will use Isis to deliver emergency communications among first responders, disaster relief organizations and other emergency management professionals. The service will provide seamless connectivity between its west coast network, operating on Intelsat's (News - Alert) Galaxy-18 satellite, and its east coast network, operating on SES' AMC-9 satellite.

iDirect Series 15100 Universal Satellite hub is linked with the company’s existing iDirect hub in Napa, California, to provide critical redundancy for IP Access International's (News - Alert) emergency management customers.

"Satellite has long been a key technology for emergency response and disaster recovery applications,” said Rob KILROY, regional vice president, Americas, iDirect (News - Alert), in a statement. “Thanks to iDirect's modular universal hub and line card system, IP Access was able to launch its bicoastal network easily and affordably, allowing the company to deliver a redundant satellite service that meets their customers' connectivity needs and will help their business grow."

With both satellite networks online and operational, Isis gives customers the ability to switch between either network for look angle versatility or in the event of a disruption in service. This redundancy will benefit emergency management, disaster recovery and business continuity applications, according to company officials.

Thanks to iDirect Intelligent Platform, IP Access partners are able to run their entire business operations more efficiently via a single, unified IP-based satellite communications architecture, according to company officials. Additionally, the company’s new hub also provides IP Access with a more robust service offering for its growing customer base in the mining, oil and gas and maritime markets.

"With multiple satellite options and independent earth stations on both coasts, IP Access can better support our emergency management customers who need to keep their networks online at all times,” said Alan RICH, president, IP Access International, in a statement.

“Giving our customers the ability to switch between satellites quickly and easily in the event of a service disruption or to provide look angle diversity is an important differentiator for our business and it's all due to our investment in the iDirect Evolution Platform," RICH added.
