IP Media Server: RadiSys Wins 2010 INTERNET TELEPHONY Award for VQE Software

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

Technology Marketing Corporation “TMC (News - Alert)” recently awarded IP media server provider RadiSys the 2010 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award for its Voice Quality Enhancement “VQE” software. The awards were presented by TMC’s INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine. According to the release, next-generation VoIP conferencing platforms based on IP media servers are increasingly being deployed by conferencing service providers “CSPs” around the globe. However, VoIP calls have not been known to provide the same voice quality as PSTN calls.

RadiSys (News - Alert) VQE software is specifically designed to address the common sources of poor voice quality in VoIP networks, including noise, packet loss and echo, while providing a set of metrics suitable for service level agreement “SLA” reporting. RadiSys’ VQE software is now available on the RadiSys Convedia media server family.

"The editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY were pleased to grant RadiSys with an INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award for their achievements in advancing IP communications and providing genuine solutions in the marketplace," said Erik Linask (News - Alert), group editorial director of INTERNET TELEPHONY. "RadiSys' VQE solution has proven RadiSys' outstanding contribution to IP communications, while delivering differentiated solutions for its customers."

The RadiSys family of Convedia Media Servers with incorporated VQE technology cost-effectively overcomes the sources of poor voice quality in IP packet networks. For VoIP services experiencing audio noise caused by background sounds or network and terminal equipment, VQE implements a combination of noise gating, noise reduction and noisy line detection mechanisms that reduce and help manage the disturbing effect of audio noise.

VQE technology also includes packet loss concealment by intelligently restoring audio packets lost or unacceptably delayed by traffic congestion on the Internet. RadiSys' Convedia Media Servers with VQE also remove acoustic echo by continuously monitoring all VoIP call legs, dynamically detecting echoes and selectively applying echo cancellation.

"As VoIP moves from a niche technology and gains traction among major carriers, providers must address the challenges of delivering good voice quality via IP-based communication services," said David Smith (News - Alert), general manager, RadiSys media server business unit. "Our VQE software is designed to overcome the challenges created by IP packet networks, and provides an economical solution for service providers to offer differentiated high-quality VoIP services to their customers."

The 2010 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award winners are published in the October 2010 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.
