RealNetworks (News - Alert), a digital entertainment services company and a provider of IP media server solutions, announced the latest version of its Helix Producer, part of the Helix Media Delivery Platform, that includes IP ingest, batch encoding, logo and text overlay, as well as rolling archives.
Helix IP media server family offers multi-format, multi-platform and multi-screen servers, simplifying the process of delivering digital media files and lowering the total cost of ownership by reducing the number of hardware platforms and power that is needed.
With the new Helix Producer, private and government organizations will be able to take advantage of the high degree of scalability and reliability powered by the IP media server, company officials said. The IP media server solution provides a broad variety of mission-critical solutions and functions including streaming live footage to citizens via traffic cameras and then using the recorded video for security purposes.
The latest version of Helix Producer features IP ingest, so organizations can capture both RTSP (IP surveillance or streaming service) and MPEG2-TS (digital cable TV or satellite) streams, and transcode the content to deliver to multi-screens, including PCs, mobile devices and tablets.
The Helix IP media server solution is also able to accommodate multiple video inputs per density on a single datacenter server, thus enabling organizations to significantly reduce the amount of server hardware required.
"The new Helix Producer with IP ingest is a win for us and a win for our customers - helping save both time and money," said Edgar Ceron, CEO of XSN Group, a provider of digital media solutions for Latin America and a reseller partner for RealNetworks Helix Media Delivery Platform, in a statement.
At this current time, the IP media server powered by RealNetworks is helping a government customer achieve its goal of offering a citywide traffic monitoring system with live streaming video from 2,000 traffic cams, Ceron said. The system uses 40 percent less server hardware, significantly cutting costs and time spent on technology administration.
Earlier this year, RealNetworks announced a global technology alliance with Ortiva Wireless (News - Alert), a pioneer in the optimized delivery of rich mobile content to mobile devices. The partnership adds video optimization to Helix Universal Media Server product line, enhancing customers' ability to efficiently manage ever-increasing loads of video content.
