Wowza (News - Alert) Media Systems, a media server software company, has just released the latest version of its IP media server, Wowza Media Server 3.

The Wowza Media Server 3, according to company officials, is the updated version of its award-winning software platform that provides a single extensible foundation and value-added components for “Any Screen Done Right” media delivery.

The company first announced the beta version of the Wowza Media Server 3 back in September. During the beta launch, Wowza said the IP media server platform has earned accolades from more than 1,500 companies who participated in the early release testing.

Providing customer satisfaction rates upwards of 99 percent, the Wowza IP media server and its next-generation software offers broad any-screen coverage for Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, iPhone, iPad, Android (News - Alert), various other smartphones and tablets, smart TVs and IPTV/OTT set-top boxes.

In addition, the IP media server offers a variety of add-on components that can help organizations of all sizes deliver live and on-demand content efficiently.

“Wowza Media Server 3 delivers the essential functionality and features that are must-haves for our business: module development flexibility, multidevice versatility, and on-the-fly security integrated with third-party studio-approved DRM platforms,” said Julien Marusi, vice president of technology at Vivendi (News - Alert) Mobile Entertainment, in a statement.

“Vivendi Mobile Entertainment uses Wowza Media Server software for streaming on its zaOza service, the first legal service for sharing and downloading of digital content in France,” Marusi added.

The innovative media server platform is enhanced with integrated live adaptive bitrate (ABR) transcoding, enabled by Wowza Transcoder AddOn. This feature eliminates the provisioning complexity typical of adaptive bitrate streaming, reduces needed access bandwidth by up to 80 percent and enables better utilization of network resources such as routers and switches.

Moreover, the IP media server features any-screen time-shifted delivery of live streams with the Wowza nDVR AddOn, so Wowza licensees can increase revenues and viewer engagement by delivering premium catch-up TV services.

Other major enhancements included within this media server include support for multiple studio-approved DRM platforms, unconstrained per-server capacity with no CPU core limitations and flexible and cost-effective licensing choices for any application and budget, including the risk-free monthly subscription license that requires no up front investment.

The monthly edition of the Wowza Media Server 3 is offered at $55 per month for the first server, a 15 percent reduction from Wowza Media Server 2 subscription fees, company officials said. The company also announced a number of custom packages in conjunction with this service.
