IP Media Server: Sansay, BroadSoft Interoperability Crucial to IP Communications

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

An IP media server is an integral component within any IP communications infrastructure and can be used in transcoding IP streams in real-time as well as to perform other functions including voice quality enhancement, transrating and IPv4/v6 address scheme normalizing.

According to a TMCnet article, leveraging an IP media server also provides more flexibility in terms of network location support. In addition, transcoding can also be performed via other devices such as a session border controller (SBC).

In a recent announcement in this regard, Sansay (News - Alert), a provider of high performance IP communications infrastructure, has announced interoperability between its Sansay VSXi SBC and BroadWorks voice application server provided by BroadSoft (News - Alert).

This integration will help service providers deliver cost-effective and compelling hosted IP solutions, as well as power the delivery of highly scalable and secure wireless IP communications services, according to company officials.

"We are pleased that the Sansay VSXi has completed interoperability with BroadWorks and believe this will speed time to market for our service provider customers that want proven, interoperable hosted unified communications solutions," said David Bukovsky, vice president products, BroadSoft, in a statement.

The interoperability of the VSXi with BroadSoft follows the successful completion of interoperability testing of Sansay's SPX session controller with BroadWorks that occurred in 2007.

"Service providers want session control infrastructure that lets them more quickly enter new markets and respond to customer needs," Dave Walters, vice president of marketing, Sansay, added in a statement. "The VSXi brings flexibility that helps service providers grow – helping them cost-effectively add seats, launch new service offerings, and turn up new points of presence."

Moreover, the session control applications from Sansay VSXi, in combination with BroadWorks, allows for the delivery of hosted IP communications services including hosted PBX (News - Alert), SIP trunking, residential VoIP, and cloud-based unified communications.
