For those of you not fluent in technological lingo, an IP media server is a common, shared IP media-processing platform for a broad range of IP audio, video, fax and speech applications in a next-generation VoIP or IMS services network.
Recently, SeaChange International (News
- Alert), a provider of cloud-based solutions and services for back office, advertising, content, in-home devices and broadcasts to hundreds of media companies and cable operators located in the U.S., Europe and Latin America, unveiled its plans to participate in the Middle East's largest digital media and satellite expo, CABSAT 2012. At the show, the company will be displaying its new flash memory-based video server MediaServer 1200XD, as well as its Universal MediaLibrary Grid storage system.
According to the company’s website, the SeaChange MediaServer 1200 is a standalone, broadcast-quality video server that offers multi-standard, multi-channel and multi-format operations. MSV 1200 boasts a highly scalable and cost-effective software codec configuration for SD, HD and MXF interoperability and has a large amount of media storage capacity available.
Some of the specific capabilities this media server powers include: high I/O density – up to 12 SD or 11 HD; support for QuickTime, MXF, and AVC-Intra; back-to-back playout of multi-formats and multiplexes; support for up/down and cross-conversion; a la carte channel configuration; streaming with the Universal MediaLibrary; up to 640 hours of 50 Mbps HD and 2,300 hours of 10 Mbps SD; built-in storage of 8TB or 16TB; RAID 6 protection against two-drive failure; FTP support ;and an option to leverage flash SSD.
In addition, at the not-to-miss event, the Univeral MediaLibrary Grid will be showcased. This storage solution offers high performance, high capacity, scalability and flexible NAS and SAN connectivity for enterprise and multimedia data storage. Also, the UML Grid stands apart from ordinary content libraries due to the fact that it combines traditional linear playout support with production and streaming into a single product, enabling direct ingest, edit-in-place, archive and play-to-air functions to take place with ease.
