RadiSys Discusses VoBB Provider Competition and Solution Advantages

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Voice over Broadband (VoBB) has redefined voice communications for consumers, but it is also proving to be an acrobatic act when it comes to competition for providers. In order to offer consumers the best VoBB features, providers must compete on quality, features, service flexibility and pricing.

Modular, standards-based IP network infrastructure, such as the SIPware™ VoBB solution provided by RadiSys (News - Alert), allows service providers to offer multimedia-rich VoBB service offerings to their target customers.

The RadiSys SIPware VoBB solution delivers features, "with the flexibility and scalability to meet individual network needs," said Ray Adensamer (News - Alert), senior manager product marketing, RadiSys, describing it as “a turnkey, software-based product designed specifically for hosted service providers to offer primary and secondary line voice services over cost-efficient IP broadband networks."As is the case with other VoBB offerings, the system’s inherent functionality, scalability and flexibility lets providers deploy services that match their market strategy and business model, delivering a service customized precisely for a target market base.

RadiSys offers both Residential and Business VoBB versions, depending on the provider’s target market. With SIPware Residential VoBB subscribers can make IP–originated calls to other IP phones or to the PSTN, and receive calls through a PSTN–provisioned phone number. Service providers can deploy the service using either prepaid or postpaid billing mechanisms to flexibly match their market strategy and business model.

The RadiSys SIPware Business VoBB is a robust IP voice solution with a range of features specific to the business communication requirements of small to medium enterprise (SMB). SIPware Business VoBB supports line–side features, including Auto Attendant with company directory, flexible extension dialing and hunt groups, plus caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, anonymous call blocking, voicemail and more.

VoBB isn't a new thing, of course. Back in the early 2000s, Voice over IP (VoIP), a term synonymous with VoBB, was seeing ignited provider proliferation, but just as consumers’ demands change, so must providers offerings. It is a booming market and in order to keep up with the heightened competition, providers must carefully select the offering that can deliver the best ROI internally while providing incomparable quality and service to their customers. As we have seen, the solutions are out there and ready for the taking.
