Workload mobility, virtualization and cloud computing have all changed the data center. Faster transmission rates, smaller form factors and next-generation 100G coherent transceivers are vital for addressing these requirements. Acacia Communications, a company offering intelligent subsystems for ultra-high speed fiber optic transmission, is catching up with the momentum.
The company is rapidly increasing market demand for multisource agreement (MSA) modules. The company’s solutions are deployed by data center operators, carriers, cable operators and service providers to meet ever-expanding requirements for capacity.
Acacia recently confirmed that 1,000 units of its commercial AC100 coherent OIF (News - Alert)-compliant modules are in use globally, doubling the deployment in less than five months. Additionally, the company also has significantly expanded its worldwide headquarters in Maynard, MA, tripling its lab facilities along with more office space to accommodate robust growth in customers and employees.
The demand for capacity and the growth of video and IP traffic is driving rapid deployment of 100G.
"In the past 12 months there has been strong growth in the 100G coherent MSA module supplier market share of 100G port shipments, fueled by wider acceptance of MSA as well as pluggable 100G coherent modules by top tier Network Equipment Manufacturers," Raj Shanmugaraj, president and chief executive officer at Acacia said in a statement.
Acacia’s AC100 100G coherent module is designed to improve transmission performance for long-haul and regional applications by leveraging powerful digital signal processing techniques and optimized high-speed optical design. Standards-compliant modules offer the benefits of best-in-class performance, powered by rapid development cycles, at lower costs, enabled by a competitive supply chain thereby minimizing the high costs of developing coherent technology.
Key features and benefits include lowest power consumption in the industry, well below OIF recommendations, fully Telcordia (News - Alert) qualified, OIF MSA-compliant form factor, fast and extensive Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) compensation range, enabling transport of 100G over fiber links that cannot even support 10G today and comprehensive performance monitoring providing instant system and link information.
