Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS (News - Alert)) is one of the largest satellite operators and service providers in the Asia-Pacific region. The provider recently signed an agreement to secure the Marina automation solution from Pebble Beach Systems, an automation and channel box specialist delivers solutions via IP transit.
ABS currently hosts more than 200 channels and recently secured a client that will benefit from the Marina installation. This move is part of an effort to control the playout of seven of its channels. The system is scheduled to go live in the second half of the year. Users will enjoy enhanced functionality thanks to Harmonic’s (News - Alert) ChannelPort devices.
As a solution, Marina continues to receive enhancements, the latest a tight integration between the Harmonic ChannelPort and Marina. This move was vital to the provision of desired functionality, including Audio Mixing and DVE. Through a Web services API, Marina is an open platform that allows the system to deliver a linking throughout the workflow that enables broadcasters to link upstream media preparation systems.
The key priorities in this deployment focused on the control enabled within the system that could be carried out over pure IP using an API specific to a device and a system that occupies only a small physical footprint. Marina is a next-generation, 64bit automation solution that is consistently evolving so as to provide the desired functionality that enables it to keep pace with the requirements of the end user. At the same time, the user leverages a technology platform able to deliver the same benefits in the future.
This move enables ABS to support Pebble Beach Systems’ Tier 1 video customer, delivering a solution that would meet the requirements of reliability, flexibility and performance satisfaction. A critical element to the expansion of ABS to develop its Subic Bay facility into a significant broadcast hub and support video customers throughout the target marketplace was the adoption of the proposed advanced technology. It better enables the provider to position itself as a leader in the marketplace, staying abreast of the latest demands in technology innovation.
ABS offers a full portfolio of solutions designed to address the changing needs in the marketplace. This can include, but is not limited to, transponder leading, broadcast services, data services and value-added services. As the market continues to expand and the demand for IP transit expands at the same pace, ABS is well positioned to deliver the solutions companies need to capture the competitive advantage.
