When it comes to selecting a least costing routing solution for your VoIP business, it’s optimal to seek out a solution that not only reduces costs but also produces an uptick in profit margins. This can be achieved by deploying a least cost routing solution that is coupled with number portability. Least cost routing solutions provider TransNexus (News - Alert) had just the resolution for FirstDigital, a facilities-based communications carrier offering broadband connections for voice, data and Internet that sought a low-cost routing solution for routing traffic between its many long-distance carriers.
Following the experience with TransNexus, FirstDigital’s manager of network services, Chris McGuire, shared with TMCnet how the company came to achieve affordable long-distance services for its customers. The interview is below.
TMCnet: Please tell us about FirstDigital and the solutions it offers.
FirstDigital Telecom is a competitive local exchange carrier based in Utah. We specialize in voice, Internet, and MPLS services for businesses. We also have a data center in Salt Lake City, Utah, where we offer collocation, as well as integration of data center and MPLS solutions.
TMCnet: What caused FirstDigital to seek out least cost routing solutions? What result was First Digital looking to achieve?
We had had an increase in demand for low-cost, long-distance service from several call centers. Although we were connected to several carriers for long distance, we did not have an efficient manner of routing traffic between them. We found that the rates with different carriers fluctuated a lot in certain areas and that we would be much more efficient in forcing our LD calls to the least cost for those specific areas, as well as across the board.
TMCnet: In your search for a provider, how did TransNexus appeal to FirstDigital and why was it the perfect fit?
From our research, we found that least cost routing solutions were quite cost-prohibitive. I was having a conversation with a systems engineer from Acme Packet (News
- Alert), and he mentioned TransNexus as a robust and affordable option for least cost routing solutions. We contacted TransNexus and went through the process of learning about their products and were extremely impressed with the technical abilities they provided. We were very attracted to the pricing and felt it would be perfect for the requirements we had.
TMCnet: Please tell us about FirstDigital's experience with working with TransNexus and the process of implementing the solutions.
TransNexus is very customer-oriented. They helped us work through the specific issues when connecting to our Genband G9 Softswitch. The Genband G9 handled SIP communication a little bit differently than some other softswitches, but the technical team at TransNexus was able to work through those issues with us and get the product working as needed. Since we have put the TransNexus system into production, we have not had a single issue with the systems. We have been impressed with the high availability of the systems and how easy it is to learn and update new rates from our upstream providers into the system.
TMCnet: Since deploying TransNexus’ solutions, how has FirstDigital benefited? What was the ultimate result?
The No. 1 benefit is that it has saved us money. It has also helped us get a more clear view of how we want to provide long-distance services to customers and what pricing we can offer. We feel that TransNexus was the best possible option for us, and it has proven to be quite beneficial to us.
