Telcordia (News - Alert), a provider of mobile telecom software and services, announced that the Number Portability Committee, on behalf of Chile's service providers, has selected Telcordia to manage the number portability system in Chile.
Through number portability, an integral part of least cost routing, Chile is looking at increasing competition among service providers that drives lower prices and higher quality of service for consumers.
In Chile, Telcordia will provide managed services, training and carrier-grade software solutions for Chile's regulators and fixed and mobile service providers to enable a number portability rollout scheduled for later this year.
Telcordia’s solution provides an innovative business model for number portability that combines fixed and transaction-based fees, and that benefits all the constituents in the ecosystem. The company has also experience in deploying number-portability systems in global markets like Mexico, which are similar to Chile.
Besides the lowest total cost of ownership for the system, Telcordia's track record of number-portability implementations and proven technical solutions were deciding factors in the bid process, company official said. Telcordia currently manages more than 15 number-portability implementations worldwide.
“We look forward to collaborating closely with Chile's regulators and service providers to install and manage this important number-portability system to give consumers the power to transfer their phone numbers if they change operators,” said Richard Jacowleff (News - Alert), president, Interconnection Solutions, Telcordia.
“Telcordia brings many years of telecommunications experience to ensuring a successful rollout of number portability in Chile, and this expertise is critical given our plans to take the system live before year end,” said Cristian Cortes, president of Chile's Number Portability Committee, in a statement.
