ITEXPO Veteran TransNexus Returns to Exhibit Floor with New Products

By Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Web Editor

Not only is least cost routing leader TransNexus (News - Alert) no stranger to the VoIP industry, but the company is also a veteran to ITEXPO, which is being hailed as this year’s largest communications technologies conference and expo.

In fact, TransNexus, which hit the ground running in its entrance into the VoIP market in 1997, has been a repeat exhibitor at ITEXPO (News - Alert), now in its 13th year. Once again, the least cost routing solutions provider will grace the exhibit floor of this year’s show, set for Sept. 13 to 15, in Austin, Texas.

“We have been to every ITEXPO – since the beginning,” Jim Dalton (News - Alert), TransNexus CEO and founder, told TMCnet. “It is always a great show and we would never miss it.”

Prior to TransNexus’ encore appearance, Dalton discussed with TMCnet this year’s trends he has observed in the least cost routing and VoIP markets, as well as what attendees can expect from the company’s booth at the show.

The full interview follows below:

How has least cost routing as a market evolved over the past year? What trends have fueled those changes?

Our market segment, selling routing and billing solutions to VoIP operators, continues to grow steadily. One interesting trend we continue to see is the growth of machine-generated VoIP traffic, which can be much more profitable than plain old voice services. I am not talking about robo-calls for election campaigns, but rather intelligent outbound calling to customers. For example, one of our customers is the primary vendor for airline outbound notification calls. When a flight is delayed, their system automatically calls the passengers for that flight. They generate hundreds to thousands of calls every hour for 10 hours a day serving airlines and other industries. Each one of those calls is important, urgent and valuable. It is a great new business segment that generates a lot of telephone traffic.

What is the most common request you are seeing from your customers? How is your company addressing these demands?

Fraud has been an issue for traditional telephone companies for years. But it was never a factor for VoIP services until recently. More and more, we hear about SIP phones and SIP PBXs that have been hacked and utilized to make unauthorized calls costing thousands of dollars. To address this need, we have added fraud detection to our NexOSS product. The NexOSS platform is the perfect tool for detecting fraud detection or traffic pumping for SIP trunking providers. It can quickly detect potential fraud, send an alert and block the route.

What do you see as the next disruptive force in technology and how will it impact your market or business?

Cloud-based services are very interesting because they are so flexible and inexpensive for small deployments. It is not clear to us how this will impact VoIP, but we expect cloud-based telephony applications will give enterprise customers access to new VoIP services that would not make economic sense outside the cloud. For example, this year we have had a growing number of requests for our application to be hosted in the Amazon Elastic Cloud. It is an excellent solution for small enterprises that do not want to spend capital dollars on server infrastructure.

What can we look forward to from your company in the next year?

Traditionally our customers have been service providers, but we have a growing number of enterprise customers who need an inexpensive, easy-to-use reporting platform for their Acme Packet (News - Alert) SBCs. We developed a new product, SDReporter, specifically for this market and we have been happy with the results. Acme Packet is the market leader in SBC; every enterprise needs an SBC and there are alot enterprises so we like the trend for this new product.

What will you be displaying at ITEXPO and why should attendees visit your booth?

In addition to SDReporter, Fraud Detection is another important solution we will be promoting at ITEXPO. A single fraud loss can easily be more than five times the cost of TransNexus software, so our new Fraud Detection feature a great offer that CFOs will love.

What are you looking forward to most at ITEXPO?

Being in the TransNexus booth on the ITEXPO show floor and hearing what is important to existing and prospective customers.  It is great for market research and understanding new market trends.
