Lantiq (News - Alert), a provider of broadband access and home networking technologies, announced it has achieved a significant milestone in the transition to the next generation Internet Protocol: IPv6.

During World IPv6 Day, Lantiq completed sanctioned testing to certify that its customer premises equipment (CPE) broadband access chipsets and Universal Gateway (News - Alert) (UGW) software packages are IPv6 ready.

Following the test, Lantiq's XWAY xDSL and network processor Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) and UGW software suite received the "IPv6 CE Ready" designation. This designation ensures that manufacturers of home routers/gateways are enabled to develop future-ready solutions based on Lantiq chips and software.

Lantiq SoCs supports a broad range of WAN interfaces, giving equipment manufacturers the flexibility to support worldwide access standards. The complete Lantiq portfolio for on-premises networking, including Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi and G.hn compliant products, supports a very modular system approach to maximize development reusability and achieve optimized system cost.

The test, conducted at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), covered Lantiq's portfolio of dedicated ADSL2/2+, VDSL2 and Gigabit Ethernet SoCs to ensure that customer premises router/gateway can be enabled to support IPv6 connectivity to the Internet.

With IPv4 nearing exhaustion, migrating to IPv6 is necessary to provide unique IP addresses for all devices operating on the worldwide network. Support for extended addressing scheme requires both SoC-level and firmware/software innovation. Lantiq is one of the first SoC suppliers to provide this support in its broadband access products.

Recently Lantiq announced collaboration with Qualcomm (News - Alert) Atheros, the networking and connectivity subsidiary of Qualcomm, to produce an advanced broadband home gateway reference design. Delivering superior xDSL and in-home Wi-Fi, the joint design integrates the Qualcomm Atheros (News - Alert) QCA9880 3x3 802.11ac solution and the Lantiq XWAY ARX300 or VRX288 universal gateway chipsets.
