Telco Systems Acquires Metro Ethernet Platform of ANDA Networks

Telco Systems (News - Alert) has completed the formalities for acquiring the major assets and intellectual property of ANDA Networks (News - Alert) in an all-cash transaction. ANDA Networks provides carrier-class Ethernet and wireless backhaul platforms, which enable cost-effective metro Ethernet services over global fiber, copper and wireless access networks.

In a release, Avi Cohen, executive vice president of business development marketing for Telco Systems, said, “Telco Systems continually looks for strategic opportunities in order to grow both our business and product offerings. ANDA’s strong suite of Ethernet access products in conjunction with our multi-service Ethernet edge solutions will provide customers a complete range of choices for Carrier Ethernet regardless of the installed infrastructure.”

“We expect that this acquisition will yield immediate benefits to Telco Systems, ANDA, and our combined service provider customer base,” Cohen added.

Telco Systems, a BATM company specializing in the provision of multi-service carrier Ethernet access and demarcation solutions, revealed that along with ANDA, new solutions can be created by combining complementary technologies.

ANDA’s Ethernet over TDM products supporting IP/MPLS technology and fiber-based edge switching and mobile backhaul aggregation solutions from Telco Systems can be synergized to arrive at fully integrated range of carrier class, MEF (News - Alert)-certified Ethernet solutions, said officials.

The acquisition is also expected to augment Telco’s deployed platforms. ANDA’s installed base of over 30,000 system platforms at Tier 1 carriers’ networks in the U.S. and Canada will be added to Telco Systems’ $2B worldwide installed base of service providers, mobile operators and cable MSOs.

Charles R. Kenmore, ANDA Networks president and CEO, stated, “The combination with Telco Systems creates synergies in terms of technology and customers. We believe that Telco Systems is the best choice for the short and long term for our stakeholders, customers, and people.”

Telco Systems announced recently that it verified its Ethernet demarcation device for compatibility with the DPoE 1.0 specifications set by CableLabs (News - Alert). Using these solutions, telecom providers can offer wireless backhaul and commercial services over EPON with advanced mechanisms of Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) utilizing their DOCSIS back office.
