Shaw Business Receives MEF Carrier Ethernet 1.0 Certification for Fiber-based Ethernet Services

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Shaw Business has been awarded Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert) (MEF) Carrier Ethernet 1.0 Certification for all of its fiber-based business Ethernet services -- EPL, EVPL and VPLS.

To the customers, the certification provides the assurance that Shaw’s fiber-based Ethernet services meet or exceed standards and align to their networking needs, according to company officials.

The company’s virtual private LAN service (VPLS) is a flexible Layer 2 service that allows multiple streams of traffic to share one connection while prioritizing data packets. The certification makes Shaw Business one of the first carriers in Canada to achieve MEF (News - Alert) ELAN Certification for the VPLS service.

Considered to be the global standard for Carrier Ethernet services standardization, the MEF Certification has been designed to accelerate the deployment of Carrier Ethernet services worldwide.

“The MEF’s Carrier Ethernet 1.0 Certification process provides independent validation of Shaw Business Ethernet services, and we are committed to consistently meet or exceed all industry standards,” said Peter Bissonnette, president at Shaw Communications (News - Alert).

Iometrix, the MEF’s official laboratory, has done extensive testing of the Ethernet product catalogue to prove conformity, performance and dependability.

Shaw Business’s coast-to-coast Ethernet network is built on the latest networking technologies and is engineered for high-capacity data delivery, including speeds up to 100 Gbit/s.

“Whether it’s a commercial client who relies on our network for their critical business needs or an international partner looking to extend their reach into our extensive North American footprint - Shaw Business offers scalable products to suit a wide range of business requirements,” Bissonnette said.

Earlier this month, Shaw Communications launched Shaw Go, a service delivering the latest premium television programs to customers anyplace, anytime on popular mobile devices, including the Apple (News - Alert) iPad and new iPhone 5.
