Colt Technology Services has made available 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) services to Infinera’s (News - Alert) customers.
The Infinera DTN platform has been used over Colt's long distance network for this purpose. Infinera, which provides Digital Optical Networks, has enabled Colt to offer 100GbE services across its unique infrastructure.
A combination of 20 Colt carrier neutral data centers and a scalable long distance network successfully connects Europe's major business areas with 39 metropolitan area networks.
“Colt plays an integral role in providing critical network and IT services throughout Europe,” said Chris Champion, vice president, EMEA sales at Infinera. “We are pleased that Colt has chosen us to deliver high speed optical Ethernet services to their customers.”
Colt is leveraging Infinera's DTN platform to expand its network capabilities as it expands its data centre and network infrastructure to address the requirement of its customers. It can now address the demand for high bandwidth scalable Ethernet services with the help of the Infinera DTN platform, which is built with photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
Infinera and Colt share a long term business relationship and Colt first deployed the Infinera DTN in 2009. Deployment of a PIC-based solution delivers a range of benefits to Colt including usage of less power and reduced costs.
Colt now has to pay lower capital and operational expenses and is operating a more flexible long-haul optical network.
“Our use of the Infinera DTN to deliver 100GbE services on our long distance network will support customers with the highest performance demands in achieving their business priorities,” said Luke Broome, CTO at Colt.
Infinera recently announced the debut of instant bandwidth on DTN-X platform.
