Imagine a technological utopia in which there were no time out errors. Is that even possible? Compuware’s in Application-Aware (News - Alert) Network Performance Monitoring (AA-NPM) and User Experience Management (UEM) makes it so, and here’s why.
Compuware was originally known for its Application Performance Management, which was simply a program that made sure that other programs weren’t hogging your computer’s resources. It’s likely the reason why you haven’t had the need to go through the rigmarole of pressing control-alt-delete in a long time. APM (News - Alert) keeps infinite loops from taking over your machine, as well as lengthy downloads of graphics from sites with just too much content on one page.
As if that was not enough, Compuware’s (News - Alert) new product, AA-NPM and UEM manages your use of the network, as well as other network users. It ensures that you do not lose speed or have applications time out due to bandwidth hogs within your network. The “User Experience Management” piece notes patterns in your usage and predicts when you will need to use the network the most. The UEM on every terminal and for every user is integrated into the network software itself to determine how to share bandwidth most efficiently.
Possibly the most impressive feature is how the middleware can play well with most any application and determine what its needs are from network resources, rather than just measuring total packets or any other traditional metric.
"Our new solutions go above and beyond TCP and Flow-based data collection found in traditional monitoring. It is critical to incorporate the application layer intelligence only available via specialized analysis," said Steve Tack, VP of Product Management for Compuware's APM business unit in a statement. "By highlighting the relationship between application and network performance, we provide our customers with visibility into how the network contributes to the overall user experience. IT teams can now proactively address issues well before they become business problems."
Organizations that utilize APM solutions for a longer time have been able to build a larger knowledge base from which to create a more effective infrastructure. Organizations can therefore optimize performance by detecting and resolving problems more proactively, with more agility, so that they do not escalate into larger issues.
