Mobile Device Management Extends Customer Care

With the advancements in technology today, there doesn’t seem to be any limit to what mobile devices or TV can do. The latest out of Samsung (News - Alert) is that the company is in the process of revolutionizing in room entertainment through televisions with built-in browser, PVR. For those of us laypeople in the U.S., this is a TIVO. This approach to mobile device management and personalization is hitting the mark with customers as the company’s products are gaining traction. 



The PVR can be linked to a username and account, enabling a person to arrive at a hotel and use it much like a loyalty card. This card contains their ID and the room’s TV will reprogram its channels, as if they user were at home in front of their own TV.

Some suggest that this development will eventually invite Android (News - Alert) as the backend of the device. A dedicated Unix kernel is currently in place, yet this will likely rotate out as part of the bigger Samsung picture. The biggest challenge, of course, will be in the overall mobile device management. 

The progression of this technology could also be hindered by the massive variations in staff levels at large resorts. These variations could lead to problems within the organization. A low-cost ruggedized Droid used in mobile device management could offer selected internal apps and serve as an added benefit in its multifunctional platform for data, voice, apps and a browser. Enough future-proofing is already in play that it could continue to benefit the hotel and its clients for the next five years. 

Staff bringing their own Droid to deliver in room and supporting services throughout the platform could also deliver benefits in mobile device management. When that staff increases, they could easily add a load of 4th generation iPod touches using WiFi (News - Alert) to ensure the system continues to run. This would allow for optimal staff expansion during the peak season.

Mobile device management is an increasingly hot topic as consumers and businesses throughout the world are finding that mobile devices not only provide capability, they also lend considerable value within the enterprise. Companies can leverage a number of different platforms to streamline efficiency, optimize performance and simply ensure communications are on track in all situations. 

Mobile device management that optimizes the Android platform allows the open source approach to take that management one step further.
