Good Technology Enhances Mobile Device Management Support for Next-Gen Android, iOS Devices

By Beecher Tuttle, TMCnet Contributor

Good Technology's (News - Alert) hallmark business-focused mobility suite now provides enhanced mobile device management and enterprise application distribution support for Android (News - Alert)- and iOS-enabled handsets, tablets and other mobile devices.

The company's renovated Good for Enterprise product is now capable of offering more security and distribution management features for enterprises that need to control the data, applications and documents that are transmitted through mobile devices. Enhanced support is now available to iPhone (News - Alert), iPod touch, iPad and various Android-enabled devices.

John Herrema, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Good Technology, said that part of the motivation for the additional mobile device management and application distribution support was the explosive adoption rates of tablet devices, such as the iPad 2, the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung (News - Alert) Galaxy Tab.

"In many cases, these tablets are being purchased by the company itself and explicitly targeted for enterprise apps, such as Sales Force Automation and Point-of-Sale apps, and in support of 'paperless office' green initiatives," Herrema noted in a statement. "This is making the secure and managed distribution of internally developed apps and corporate documents more important than ever."

Good Technology's mobility suite provides enhanced mobile device management features for iOS 4 and Android 2.2 or higher. The technology enables enterprises to support and secure both company-owned and personal mobile devices through a singular solution – all without the need to deploy complex infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Good's additional support for enterprise application distribution will provide employees with secure access to mission-critical business applications on their tablet or smartphone of choice.

Dimitri Volkmann, vice president of products and markets at Good Technology, said that the updated mobile suite grants companies the ability to manage "virtually all" devices for "both work and play."

Good for Enterprise customers with a valid support and maintenance agreement will have access to the new features at no additional cost. Good currently supports most all mobile operating systems, with the exception of Windows Phone (News - Alert) 7 and webOS, which are said to be coming soon, according to Wireless Week.
