Fiberlink Announces Mobile Device Management Support for Windows Phone 7.5

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Fiberlink, a provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) solutions for secure mobile device management, announced that its MaaS360 platform is the first mobile device management (MDM) solution to support Microsoft's Windows Phone (News - Alert) 7.5.

With Windows Phone 7.5 support, Fiberlink offers customers a powerful mobile device management solution that has been created for increased mobility and enhanced policy enforcement in their organizations. Fiberlink’s single, cloud-based console can be used to manage Windows Phone 7.5 devices alongside iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices in a single, cloud-based console.

Microsoft (News - Alert) first rolled out WindowsPhone 7.5 (codenamed “Mango”) in September and Windows Phone 7.5 support then became instantly available to all MaaS360 customers. All customers received the update at no additional charge and with no action required by IT staff.

Company officials say the update utilizes a MaaS360 app for the Windows Phone 7.5 OS and through a simple enrollment process, devices are automatically populated in the MaaS360 portal.

Through Fiberlink’s single mobile device management console, IT administrators can manage and configure devices over-the-air, block or allow access to corporate data, automatically enforce compliance and policies, take actions such as selectively wiping data and enable a self-service portal for employees.

Fiberlink’s strategy to support the latest Windows Phone is suggestive of the growing market demand for the Windows Phone. According to Gartner (News - Alert), Windows Phone will be the second most popular smartphone OS by 2015.

“Fiberlink's immediate support is further evidence of the value and speed of MaaS360's cloud-based differentiation in the mobile management marketplace," said John Nielsen, senior product manager at Fiberlink, in a statement. "As part of our strategic vision, we believe it's important to utilize the power of the cloud to support new devices and operating systems as rapidly as they become available."

In a related announcement, Fiberlink also announced mobile device management support for Apple (News - Alert) iOS5, the latest mobile operating system from Apple.
