Odyssey Software (News - Alert), a provider of enterprise-class mobile device management (MDM) software, claimed that through its Athena MDM software it is offering enhanced support for Android (News - Alert) 4.0.
The Athena software has been integrated with several new features that improve its capabilities for Android 4.0 devices including a device management policy that can be used to remotely disable cameras on a managed device for users working in sensitive environments, as well as enhanced password controls with more granular settings for device password requirements.
According to the company, Athena is designed to complement and extend existing management platform capabilities, and allow organizations to preserve current infrastructure investment. Whether one uses Microsoft (News - Alert) System Center Configuration Manager 2007, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, or one of Odyssey’s partner solutions, Athena gives them the power to efficiently manage deployed devices.
Athena complements and extends the native MDM functions of the Configuration Manager platform to enable broad management of Android devices, as well as iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Windows Embedded CE devices.
Officials with Odyssey claimed that the popularity of Android devices is being carried into the enterprise and securing corporate data on these devices is a critical challenge for IT administrators. Athena now provides expanded capabilities for managing and securing Android 4.0.
The unique modular architecture of Athena, coupled with the flexibility of the Odyssey Software organization, has allowed for the rapid adaption and incorporation of these new platform enhancements.
IDC (News - Alert) asserted that with the increase in usage of Apple (News - Alert) iOS and the Android devices in the enterprise comes the growing demand to remotely manage these devices to enforce policies, enhance productivity and drive efficient operations for workers. Solutions such as Odyssey Software’s Athena address the need for enterprise to manage iOS and Android along with other major mobile devices from a unified platform.
