OpenPeak Unveils New Cloud-based Mobile Device Management System

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

OpenPeak (News - Alert), a provider of mobile device management (MDM) and application management platforms, launched a new cloud-based SANCTION device management system at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES (News - Alert)).

The new mobile device management system enables enterprises and service providers to provision, secure, locate, audit and fully manage users' mobile devices using the OpenPeak ADAM Administrator web portal, company officials said.

OpenPeak SANCTION is offered as a stand-alone mobile device management solution and is compatible with multiple device platforms.

“The proliferation of mobile devices has created quite a challenge for every size company," said OpenPeak CEO Dan Gittleman, in a statement. "The question is, how do you balance the benefits of the technology with the security risks and the management strain these devices place on already-taxed IT departments?”

The new mobile device management system makes the process easy, eliminating the need to stitch together various stand-alone components in an attempt to achieve the necessary visibility and control, Gittleman said.

Together with OpenPeak's SECTOR profile management application and OPENSHOP fully managed application shop, OpenPeak ADAM delivers the five "Elements of MDM” described in Gartner’s (News - Alert) 2011 Magic Quadrant for Mobile Device Management Software.

The five elements of mobile device management described by Gartner are: physical device management with complete user management, provisioning and support; policy-based management with configurable rules- and event-based control of on-device operations; security management with the ability to force the use of VPN for secure network connectivity when on an unauthorized Wi-Fi network; business intelligence and service reporting with a policy-driven reporting engine; and software distribution through the OPENSHOP secure enterprise in-house application store.

In addition to offering integration with OpenPeak's multi-tiered and OS-agnostic ADAM Administrator portal and white-label OPENSHOP products, SANCTION can also work in conjunction with existing legacy systems to augment mobile device management components already in place.

Recently, industry observer Pedro Pereira identified a noteworthy mobile device management prediction for 2012. According to Pereira, the steady increase of mobile devices in workplace will give rise to a trend wherein “managed services providers (MSPs) and remote monitoring and management (RMM) vendors will be pushing mobile device management (MDM) as an important value-added service for end customers.” Read the details here.

In related news, Adam Stein (News - Alert) from leading mobile device management provider MobileIron will be speaking at TMC’s upcoming ITEXPO (News - Alert) East, which is taking place from Jan 31-Feb 3, 2012 in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Stein will be speaking at a session entitled, “Mobile Virtualization: Two Virtual Phones, One Single Mobile Devices.”
