Filling a Void for Mobile Device Management
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Big tech companies may need to be beefing up their mobile initiatives as startups are paving the way for large companies to get what they need in mobile device management quicker and easier. These companies are offering ways for big industry to have software at their fingertips to help them run every aspect of their business, from accounting to marketing.
Business could be conducted through Internet –based systems that allow them to adapt and change at a moment’s notice. It’s not just the big boys anymore, like Dell, Cisco Systems or EMC (News - Alert). According to this Bloomberg Businessweek piece, startup companies such as FireEye (News - Alert), Arista Networks and Coraid can now be on the cutting edge of software development outside the traditional model we have seen in the past from the behemoths in technology.
What is even more interesting is that these new companies may employ relatively small numbers, but once they decide to go to the public trading sector, their companies could be worth millions or even billions. As startups, they are able to focus in on the need of the individual and develop solutions as quickly as needs change.
The latest offerings that these smaller companies bring to the table may force some of the other technology entities to explore what they currently do. Rather than just hardware development, the emphasis may be on software and applications. Software is where it’s at when it comes to the functioning piece of business. Hardware provides the infrastructure while software runs it. In a competitive economy and the need to move faster, flexibility and agility are in high demand. |
The new ideas for mobile device management are emerging in the hands of the new versus the old. They have the ability to provide what companies now need and the demand is increasing. In the climate of ever changing ideas and solutions being generated by business, they need improved ways of communicating with their customers and stakeholders.
With the ability to link to smartphones, business can operate more quickly and more efficiently. These startup companies know and understand the demand that now exists. Those who once led the pack in technology may be taking notes from the new kid on the block. The startups have their hand on the pulse of the latest and greatest in technology and are willing to work with business to learn more about what these companies need. It is not so much of a one size fits all blueprint for all.
What one company may need in the form of mobile device management may differ, but that’s the beauty of having so many new companies out there with the know-
how and willingness to adapt to the changes necessary to fill a void that was previously left vacant. Plus, this direction means better and less expensive options for the end-user, a win for everyone.
