Mobile Device Management Provider MobileIron Triples Sales in 2012

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Mobile device management provider MobileIron has witnessed tremendous growth in 2012 in terms of the number of seats sold and customer acquisitions. In fact, the company has tripled the number of seats in 2012 compared to 2011, added more than 700 enterprise customers per quarter, and won more than 1,400 add-on orders.

MobileIron provides security for mobile apps, documents and devices. It claims to have expanded its customer base significantly including adding seven of the 10 top pharmaceutical companies, five of the 10 top banks, eight of the 10 top automotive manufacturers, three of the five top retailers, four of the five top aerospace and defense companies, and half of the 10 top law firms.

The mobile device management company attributes its rapid success to its innovation, product delivery and customer success.

Bob Tinker, CEO, MobileIron, said in a statement, "In 2012 we saw our customers dramatically expand their mobile deployments to move beyond the device and to focus on delivering apps and content. They chose MobileIron because they know that we are the only vendor that can provide the technology, best practices, training, and support to make their mobile initiatives successful."

With the growing popularity of the bring your own device (BYOD) trend, mobility is now considered key to the future of businesses. According to IDC (News - Alert), by 2016 worldwide shipments of smartphones will reach 480 million, with 65 percent being used in BYOD environments.

And MobileIron, with its innovative mobile device management capabilities, is looking to take advantage of this opportunity by continuously launching new solutions. For example, the recently unveiled Enterprise Persona for both iOS and Android (News - Alert) delivers enterprise-grade security for enterprise apps and content, while retaining the convenience and ease of use of the native experience on a mobile device.

Important components of Enterprise Persona include the MobileIron AppConnect application wrapper and SDK, which secures enterprise apps and data-at-rest in micro-containers; MobileIron App Delivery Network, which delivers large applications seamlessly to users around the world; MobileIron AppTunnel, which secures each application's data-in-motion; and Docs@Work, the industry's only mobile data loss prevention (DLP) solution for iOS e-mail attachments.

In 2012, the company added over 300 resellers and many of the largest mobile operators including AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, SingTel, and Vodafone (News - Alert). Of the total customer base acquired during this period, 40 percent was located outside of North America.

Lastly, the mobile device management company also received SOC-2 Type 1 certification for the Connected Cloud platform and achieved a 97 percent customer support satisfaction rate.
