KoolSpan (News - Alert), a company that has developed the TrustChip family of plug-in mobile security management solutions, has just formed partnership with NTP Software, a provider of file data management solutions, to introduce a new mobile encryption file sharing solution.
Dubbed as SafeFile, the new mobile encryption file sharing solution addresses the mobile security management issues, especially those associated with file management from the data center and desktop to smartphones and tablets.
The solution is based on KoolSpan's TrustChip, a micro SD chip with secure digital technology. Thanks to KoolSpan's patented FIPS 140-2 TrustChip & TrustGroup technology, NTP Software SafeFile allows secure file viewing and sharing between two people or a defined group of people. The solution keeps file data safe from hackers, misdeeds and accidents.
SafeFile allows users with the same TrustGroup in common to establish a secure connection, mutually authenticated and encrypted. With SafeFile, files will be secure at every point of existence, including when in transit between users, at rest or between the data center and user.
"People have wanted encrypted file data for mobile devices for years, but no one does it because it's too difficult to manage and it can only be used in limited contexts," said NTP Software CEO Bruce Backa, in a statement. "The special sauce here is that our system is end-to-end, from datacenter to mobile devices and everything in between.”
“We are committed to enabling our customers in all aspects of file data management,” Backa added. “This allows us to go further in helping them keep their file data always encrypted and always accessible."
Gregg Smith, CEO of KoolSpan, thinks that keeping mobile files secure is a huge vulnerability in the market. A recent infographic from Kensington says it all: 70 million smartphones are lost each year, with only 7 percent recovered; 4.3 percent of company-issued smartphones are lost or stolen every year with an alarming 52 percent of devices stolen from the office/workplace with another 24 percent from conferences.
With the new mobile security management solution, the companies are trying to address these issues, Smith added. “The partnership with NTP validates our combined platforms, puts us into a new marketplace where we will be a category leader, and adds to our growing list of applications with our TrustSuite solution.”
In another significant earlier in June, KoolSpan announced the release of the Android edition of its secure, encrypted Short Message Service (SMS) transmissions solution, TrustText. KoolSpan is also developing an iPhone (News - Alert) solution that is expected be available by late 2012.
