D2 Technologies' Adds Support for IBM Lotus Sametime on Linux Smartphones

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

D2 Technologies’ (News - Alert) converged mobile communications client software is now interoperable with IBM Lotus Sametime, according to the company.

A market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, D2’s mCUE has been integrated with Lotus Sametime in an effort to increase versatility and better promote the use of Linux-based mobile devices in enterprise unified communications (UC) scenarios, according to the company.

IBM Lotus Sametime is the most widely deployed (UC) platform in the enterprise.

The interoperability is expected to allow OEMs and ODMs to use mCUE's converged presence-based communications user interface (CUI) to develop and introduce to market new mobile devices that integrate all session types, including cellular voice call, VoIP, IM, SMS and e-mail messaging.

As TMCnet recently reported, the mCUE became the first commercial smartphone operating on the Android (News - Alert) mobile operating system from Google and its design is provides manufacturers with a powerful turnkey software solution for developing and delivering WiMAX (News - Alert) handsets and similar portable devices to market.

The company is putting its converged communications client on display during invitation-only previews this week at VoiceCon Orlando 2009 to show mCUE and IBM Lotus Sametime on Motorola's (News - Alert) MOTOROKR E6, one of the earliest Linux-based smartphones introduced to market.

"By demonstrating mCUE's interoperability with IBM Lotus Sametime on Motorola's MOTOROKR E6, we can clearly show customers how it is possible to quickly and easily bring mobile unified communications to the enterprise," said Doug Makishima, vice president of marketing and sales at D2 Technologies.

Through D2’s mCUE converged presence-based CUI, new mobile devices that integrate all session types including cellular voice call, VoIP, IM, SMS and e-mail messaging can more quickly be introduced to market.

"mCUE is highly versatile software, configurable to any enterprise environment composed of UC, IP PBX and FMC systems,” said Makishima.

In addition to IBM Lotus Sametime, a vendor-proprietary enterprise communications protocol and service, mCUE supports several major standardized protocols for VoIP, IM and presence as well as third party, open-API protocols and services.

“It gives developers a complete turnkey solution for developing multi-mode, multi-protocol, multi-service mobile communication capabilities on Linux, arguably today's hottest operating system for mobile devices," said Makishima.

Mobile devices with mCUE provide users with advanced presence-based and push-to-x control of cellular and VoIP calls, PBX feature activation, IM, e-mail, SMS and other features typically only available on PC-based unified communications soft clients, according to the company.

The user interface is built on top of a multi-identity, multi-session, multi-protocol engine, enables flexible interoperability with multiple communications services such as enterprise IP PBXs and UC systems, and commercial VoIM services like Google Talk, Yahoo!, MSN and AIM.

D2’s mCUE pairs a communications user interface with the company’s vPort MP VoIP software platform to address the needs of OEMs and service providers delivering integrated UC and Fixed Mobile Convergence (News - Alert) (FMC) functionality.

The platform provides a an embedded software framework for multi-mode mobile devices for enterprise, carrier and consumer use including dual-mode Wi-Fi enabled smartphones, WiMAX and Wi-Fi enabled MIDs and home communications hubs.

Conference attendees interested in arranging a private demonstration of mCUE on the MOTOROKR E6 should contact D2 directly at [email protected].
