NMS Communications' PCI Express Board Gives Telecom Developers More Platform Choices

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

NMS Communications today extended  its Open Access application development family to include the popular PCI Express (peripheral component interconnect express) architecture.

The application supports up to eight T1/E1 universal ports and up to 6,384 million instructions per second (MIPS) of digital signal processing, NMS’s CG 6565e Series is the industry’s highest density, highest power family of PCI Express media processing boards, according to NMS Communications Vice President of Marketing Jamie Warter (News - Alert).

“The server industry is migrating quickly to the PCI Express form factor because of its speed and bandwidth advantages,” said Warter.

The CG 6565e enables developers to create and deploy both traditional and next-generation applications, including conferencing, messaging, PSTN and IP call centers, VoIP gateways, PSTN and IP media servers, ringback tones, VoIP and PSTN telephony testing systems, IVR, announcements, and video gateway-video play/record.

Key features include: universal port capability that integrates PSTN interfaces, telephony protocols, comprehensive IVR functionality, full-duplex echo cancellation, speech transcoding, media resource control protocol (MRCP) speech, fax processing, conferencing, and 3G video – enabling developers to support these features on a single platform;  single development environment, Natural Access, making it easy for existing NMS customers to migrate to the new PCI Express form factor, and opening the door for new customers to adopt one platform to develop multiple applications;  broad operating system support including Windows, Linux and Solaris;   scalability that enables users to buy only the number of ports (0, 1, 2, 4, or 8 T1/E1 interfaces) and digital signal processing power (1,064 to 6,384 MIPS) they need;  IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-enabled, allowing developers to incorporate next-generation technologies.

“Now developers can choose the form factor that best suits their needs – whether HMP, PCI, PCI Express, CompactPCI (News - Alert) or AdvancedTCA – from the NMS product family,” said Warter.

The initial high density configurations of the CG 6565e will be available in Q2 2008. For more information, contact NMS at 508-271-1000 and say “sales.”
