Yours Truly probably first heard about MERA Systems
in 2004, when they announced that Maximus Telecom, a Quebec-based wholesaler, had deployed MERA’s MVTS session controller for enhanced voice services in the region.
After successful deployment of the MVTS in its own network, Maximus Telecom resold MERA’s products in North America. What impressed me about the MVTS at the time was its ability to do smart routing, session control, detailed call statistics and CDR collection, SIP/H.323 interworking and much more. Furthermore, their then-just-released NAT Traversal module enabled the MVTS to interconnect with customer SIP and H.323 endpoints deployed behind corporate NAT/firewalls.
Recently, MERA Systems (News
) announced that they had successfully completed interoperability testing between MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch Pro (MVTS Pro) and the Dialogic IMG 1010 Media Gateway (News
) by Dialogic Corporation
Dialogic, of course, was the biggest name in the world of computer telephony in the 1990s, and it remains a global provider of world-class products and technologies for media and signal processing, and is something of a bellwether of the telecom industry.
The origins of the IMG 1010 Media Gateway go back several years to the Excel Switching (News
) Corporation. It was in 2007 that Dialogic announced it had acquired all of the outstanding shares of EAS Group Inc., the subsidiaries of which included Cantata Technology (News
), Inc., Excel Switching Corporation, Brooktrout Technology, Inc. and SnowShore Networks Inc.
This modern incarnation of the MVTS, the MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch Professional (MVTS Pro), is a high-performance Class 4 softswitch with flexible modular architecture, transcoding capabilities, increased reliability and extremely high operation efficiency. The MVTS Pro Radius API interfaces with third-party routing systems and facilitates the product’s deployment on carrier’s existing network infrastructure. It dramatically simplifies network management chores by providing seamless interoperability of multi-vendor equipment ensuring network protection.
Being a carrier-grade VoIP gateway solution with unique capabilities, Dialogic IMG 1010 Integrated Media Gateway offers customer’s significant capital and operational savings while simultaneously speeding time to market. Dialogic’s IMG 1010 performs two-way protocol conversion between circuit-switched networks like the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and packet-switched networks like the Internet. This VoIP media gateway provides service providers and enterprises with high reliability.
The testing was set out to ensure interoperability between IMG 1010 and MVTS Pro concerning registration, call handling, DTMF transmission, T.38 real time fax and other functions. The testing proves that Dialogic IMG 1010 Integrated Media Gateway is fully compatible with MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch Pro (MVTS Pro) and they can be packaged together in complete VoIP solutions to generate new revenues and facilitate rapid service deployment.
By being fully compatible with Dialogic IMG 1010 Media Gateway, the MVTS Pro can now provide telecom carriers with an opportunity for businesses development by adding enhanced capabilities, unrivaled price performance and flexibility to their networks. Dialogic’s IMG 1010 compliance with MVTS Pro thus enables various VoIP applications and allows customers to implement advanced and proprietary SIP interoperability features on their own.
