Windstream, a provider of advanced network communications, today had its MPLS enabled Virtual LAN Services certified by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF (News - Alert)) as compliant for both MEF 9 and MEF 14 technical specifications as well as being Carrier Ethernet 1.0 Certified. These specifications cover the MEF carrier Ethernet services verified at the user network interface (UNI), which is where the provider interfaces with the subscriber to deliver the services.
"Because our VLS products have been thoroughly vetted, enterprise customers looking to leverage more Ethernet-based services, as well as wholesale carrier partners, can be confident in their partnership with Windstream," said Don Perkins, Windstream senior vice president of Business Marketing, in a statement. "As a premier provider of advanced communications, we will continue to serve our customers and help shape industry standards moving forward."
The MEF is a global telecommunications industry alliance that is dedicated to the worldwide adoption of carrier Ethernet networks and services. It relies on third-party testing lab Iometrix (News - Alert) to oversee the MEF Certification Program and to verify compliance of service provider services to MEF technical specifications.
Additionally, Windstream offers a full suite of advanced network communications and technology solutions including voice and data services such as VoIP, SIP trunking, VPN and dedicated high-speed Internet as well as managed services, cloud computing, disaster recovery and network services.
In fact, the company recently expanded its portfolio to include an unparalleled level of security with the launch of End Point Security Protection by McAfee (News - Alert), which is intended to eliminate the need for multiple security products. As such, Endpoint Security Protection offers small businesses a single solution capable of quickly detecting and blocking viruses, spam, spyware, phishing attempts and hacker attacks.
Also recently Windstream's IP Simple unified communications solution was named as the 2012 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year by TMC (News - Alert).
