NetFlow Provider Enhances the User Expreience via Newly Debuted Book

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Plixer International (News - Alert) is known around the world for its highly intuitive network traffic monitoring and analysis tools. Recently, the company decided to expand its footprint by launching the book titled, "Unleashing the Power of NetFlow and IPFIX."

With the goal of remaining a thought leader in Flow technologies, as well as showing that nearly all of the major flow exporting companies (e.g. Adtran, Astaro, Barracuda, Cisco, Citrix, Dell, Enterasys, Extreme, Lucent, Palo Alto (News - Alert), SonicWALL, and several others) are working directly with Plixer to ensure they provide the very best flow export and proving that Flow technologies are being used for much more than traditional traffic analysis, the NetFlow provider realized the sheer importance of this informative guide. Encompassing approximately 150 color illustrations, the book details the varied types of flow technologies such as NetFlow, sFlow and IPFIX by highlighting real life case studies from several vendors and outlines where the product is headed in the next five years.

According to Michael Patterson (News - Alert), CEO of Plixer International, the company’s NetFlow solution differs from others on the market due to the fact that “the Scrutinizer architecture meets the demands of where Flow technologies are headed. This is indicated by Cisco’s increased support for flexible NetFlow and the industry acceptance of the proposed flow standard: IPFIX. Our architecture can accept anything exported in flow technology (e.g. messages that resemble syslogs) and the Report Designer allows customers to build custom reports that meet the demands of their unique business.”

Patterson added, “Because of the above, we also provide the widest threat detection capabilities based on flow technologies.”

Companies need to implement a NetFlow solution right now if they haven’t already because Flow technologies are the second best threat detection technology available today, while it is the only product on the market that provides affordable end to end visibility of traffic behaviors on the network. With this offering in addition to this book, IT departments within companies in virtually every industry can optimize their current toolsets in order to quickly and accurately pinpoint potential vulnerabilities cyber terrorists may be able to take advantage of. In addition, crucial performance issues can be rectified when implementing the ideal network hardware which can drive flow data exporting, collection, reporting and threat detection.

"Michael Patterson has loaded the book up with clearly written examples of what is possible with NetFlow and IPFIX. Flow technology is spreading beyond basic packet counting on routers and into virtual environments, threat detection, data reconnaissance but also application analysis as well. With the increasing demand to gain greater network traffic insight on elements such as jitter, packet loss and URLs, the volume of Flow exports is exploding. Because of this, scalability is a concern and the content in these pages explores important aspects of NetFlow export and processing such as distributed collection, flow deduplication and stitching," commented Aamer Akhter, technical leader and architect for Network Management Solutions, Cisco Systems (News - Alert), in a statement.

With increasingly popular trends in the NetFlow space such as flow technologies now being used for much more than traditional traffic analysis including to export messages and view latency details, it is imperative that your company turn to Plixer before it is too late.
