Feb 05, 2013 (The Record-Eagle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
TRAVERSE CITY -- A man who took his computer for repairs at Best Buy faces four felony counts of possession of child sexually abusive material after store technicians tipped off police.
Employees contacted a Traverse City police sergeant and indicated the computer "remotely contained images suspected to be child sexually abusive material," according to court documents.
A Best Buy manager provided police with the computer owner's information.
Police used a search warrant to enter the West 10th Street home of James Christopher Knight, 44, court documents show.
In Knight's residence officers located a Toshiba desktop tower, 82 pages of printed images, VHS tapes and other computer equipment.
The charging documents indicate a Sept. 26 offense date.
A computer forensic examiner evaluated the hard drive and found numerous child sexually abusive images.
Knight faces an additional charge of possession of marijuana, which was discovered during the search warrant.
A preliminary examination is scheduled for Feb. 19.
