BRIEF: Panto: New City Hall for Easton at intermodal bus station
Feb 11, 2013 (The Morning Call (Allentown - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Mayor Sal Panto Jr. has announced he plans to move City Hall from the Alpha Building on Centre Square to the new intermodal bus station complex on S. Third Street.
Panto said Monday afternoon he hopes to sell the Alpha Building and has three possible buyers. The city moved its operations to the Alpha Building in 1996 from the old City Hall on Ferry Street.
The construction manager for the new complex will be J.G. Petrucci Co. and construction will begin in April, Panto said.
City officials expect to move into the new location by the first quarter of 2015, Panto said.
Last year, Panto said the city was in negotiations with Petrucci to manage construction of the proposed $26 million facility along S. Third Street. Panto said the intermodal building's first tenant, the National High School Sports Hall of Fame, will remain at the location.
The proposed intermodal facility would have 370 parking spaces in a three-story structure atop a Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority hub for its buses. The front of the building would offer 45,000 square feet of office space.
