Phone tap laws inconsistent
Feb 18, 2013 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --
Flaws in Australia's surveillance laws prevent law enforcement agencies from sharing information about corrupt civil servants and police officers. Telephone calls can be legally intercepted but the information thus gathered cannot be shared. The Queensland Crime & Misconduct Commission and the New South Wales Police Integrity Commission are lobbying for a change giving them the power to share telecommunications data that is also known as metadata.
