Powell, Copeland take top SPC honors [Independent Tribune, Concord, N.C.]

(Independent Tribune (Concord, NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 23--Divonnie Powell and Derrick Copeland are Players of the Year in South Piedmont Conference basketball.

Powell plays for the Central Cabarrus girls team, while Copeland plays for the A.L. Brown boys team.

Cox Mill's Kate Jenis is girls Coach of the Year. A.L. Brown's Shelwyn Klutz is boys Coach of the Year.

The complete girls team is: Powell; Rachel Cook, Madison Fulford and Kelsi Mahoney (Jay M. Robinson); Nakiah Black and Danica Ford (Concord); Shatiya Bost (Northwest Cabarrus); Raven Phifer and Aitana Grant (A.L. Brown); Kiana Davis (Hickory Ridge); Aaliyah Earl (Cox Mill) and Victoria Harper (Mount Pleasant).


The complete boys team is: Copeland; Reid Aube, Darren Black, Connor Burchfield and Jerry Burk (Concord); Tevin Stark (A.L. Brown); J.D. Murray and Andrew Wheet (Northwest); Matt Morgan (Cox Mill); William Scott and Jordan McKenzie (Robinson); and Nick Hough (Hickory Ridge).

Stallions drop semifinal The Greater Cabarrus Stallions fell to the Raleigh Hawks in the state semifinals of the NCHE Tournament 62-59.

The Stallions (21-6) were led by Randy Hansen with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Josh Endicott had 12 points and Coby Hansen chipped in 11.

CMS boys win The Concord boys seventh grade basketball team beat Mount Pleasant 69-29.

Zyion Boger scored 17 points and Alon Parker added 10 assists.

HRMS girls win The Hickory Ridge girls seventh grade basketball team is 9-0 after beating C.C. Griffin 32-12.

Gabby Smith had 17 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

Hardin on Shrine Bowl staff Porter Ridge football coach Blair Hardin has been chosen as an assistant coach for the N.C. team in the 2013 Shrine Bowl.

Hardin, son of former A.L. Brown coach Bruce Hardin, played for his father in Kannapolis.
