The Nimsoft (News - Alert) Monitor solution now supports Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, the company announced today. The new feature gives customers unified, end-to-end visibility into Red Hat (News - Alert) and non-Red Hat resources for more efficient and effective delivery of IT services to their business.
According to Stephen Smith, senior principal manager of product marketing for Nimsoft, support for Red Hat is basically an expansion of what the company has been working on, and a response to demand from customers. He mentioned that managed service providers (MSPs) and enterprises alike are gravitating toward open source solutions like Red Hat to avoid vendor lock-in and the price increases inherent in proprietary platforms. Nimsoft Monitor already supports the open source Citrix XenServer platform as well as IBM PowerVM, Microsoft (News - Alert) Hyper-V, Oracle Solaris Zones, VCloud and VMware.
At its core, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization from Nimsoft is an open source virtualization management solution for servers and desktops designed to streamline the administration of heterogeneous virtualized environments. This is accomplished through the management of multiple virtualization technologies from a single platform. This includes all Red Hat hypervisors, back through to Linux and the physical infrastructure the platform is running on. All components, including servers, storage and applications, are monitored from a lone unified architecture.
"You can track the services you have deployed all along the entire infrastructure," said Smith. He added that support for an open source platform fosters collaboration within developer and customer communities and enables Nimsoft to be as broad as possible in its support. About 16 percent of Red Hat customers use Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization exclusively, while the remainder of their customer base is using a shared or hybrid solution.
“Red Hat customers want management tools that are easy to deploy, easy to operate and provide the functionality they need to keep their critical business services up and running at peak performance,” said Geert Jansen, senior product marketing manager, virtualization at Red Hat, said, “Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization combined with Nimsoft Monitor provides our joint customers with the performance, reliability, scalability and cost-effectiveness they need for their IT infrastructures.”
The new solution also offers a lower total cost of ownership than other options, and streamlines administration of physical and virtualized elements in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization-enabled environments. In addition to auto-discovery of hypervisors, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization provides granular, correlated views of Red Hat environments and underlying physical systems. The solution also offers real-time performance and availability of data, proactive alerts that are based on customer-defined thresholds and automation of common Red Hat configuration and data collection tasks.
Smith mentioned that a new Nimsoft service desk release is slated to be announced soon along with a new major release of Nimsoft Monitor. The big upcoming news for the company though, is the Nimsoft Automation solution which will be debuted near the end of the year. "It will be a significant increase in terms of what we're able to bring to the table," said Smith. The solution will offer a variety of functionality for Nimsoft users, including the ability to take action within the software instead of just monitoring and alerts. Integration among Nimsoft components like the Monitor solution and service desk will also become tighter in new releases, added Smith.
Nimsoft will participate in the 2012 Red Hat Summit/JBoss World next week in Boston, showcasing Nimsoft Monitor with support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization.
