Lenovo (News - Alert) and EMC have joined hands to form LenovoEMC, a new joint venture (JV) created to deliver co-branded network attached storage (NAS) solutions to clients.
The joint venture incorporates the core assets of EMC’s (News
- Alert) Iomega business and delivers NAS to remote branches, small and medium businesses and distributed enterprises.
Lenovo develops, manufactures and markets reliable, high-quality, secure and easy-to-use technology products and services. EMC helps IT departments to store, manage, protect and analyze information in a more agile, trusted and cost-efficient way.
Both companies are shareholders of this new entity, and Lenovo holds the majority interest in LenovoEMC.
“Lenovo’s record as one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the world and Iomega’s heritage as a leader in network storage solutions enables the joint venture to pursue growth opportunities and drive innovation in the SMB NAS market,” said Eric Arcese, president and general manager, LenovoEMC Ltd.
Iomega NAS solutions include the EMC LifeLine operating system, which is ideal for small business users, remote enterprise offices and departmental data centers.
All these capabilities expand Lenovo’s ThinkServer and ThinkStation server and workstation offerings.
Lenovo and EMC are also collaborating on an x86 server technology development program and an OEM and reseller relationship for EMC’s storage solutions.
“With the joint venture now underway, there’s a real sense of opportunity and excitement as we work with our partners and customers to firmly establish LenovoEMC Ltd as a leader in the fast-growing global SMB storage market,” added Arcese.
Lenovo was in news recently for completing the acquisition of CCE, widely known in Brazil as a leader in PCs and consumer electronics.
