Gigamon (News - Alert), a provider of data access solutions, has expanded its product offering with added features to its GigaSMART line and the addition of the GigaSECURE line.

Gigamon has expanded its award-winning GigaSMART product to offer new tools to control, manage and secure their data. The GigaSMART Advanced Packet Modification Technology helps organizations improve data visibility while also reducing network costs and improving productivity.

The GigaSMART product is now expanded to include IP tunneling, de-duplication, and Header Stripping. IP tunneling allows centralized secure monitoring of remote locations. De-duplication eliminates duplicate data traffic in complex asymmetrical network environments. Header Stripping provides improved network monitoring of VLAN and MPLS traffic.

OPNET Technologies (News - Alert), a leading provider of network diagramming solutions, was quick to weigh in on the recent news.

“Gigamon can play an important role in deployment strategies for performance monitoring solutions in the data center," according to Todd Kaloudis, Senior Vice President at OPNET Technologies, Inc., a leader in application and network performance management.  “Our AppResponse Xpert uniquely delivers multiple capabilities in a single appliance, including end-user experience monitoring, network performance monitoring, web transaction analysis, VoIP troubleshooting and more.  Deploying with Gigamon is effective in complex environments with high capacities or many traffic feeds because they perform intelligent traffic conditioning, including grooming, splitting, and filtering.”

In addition to expanding the GigaSMART product, Gigamon has also added the GigaSECURE line. The first product in GigaSECURE line is the GigaBPS intelligent bypass switch, which provides intelligent visibility for both Intrusion (News - Alert) Prevention Systems (IPS) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). With this levels of security, the GigaBPS allows organizations to further centralize their network management, saving time and expense.

“With the GigaBPS intelligent bypass switch, Gigamon is the first to introduce a completely centralized monitoring access layer,” said Doug Hurd, director, Technical Alliances for Sourcefire, a world leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, in a statement.

“A single appliance can now be populated to handle inline security devices and receive port only devices, eliminating the need to have multiple TAPs and bypass units from different vendors,” Hurd added. “This simplifies network management and reduces the time to get network protection implemented.”

In other news, consumers wanting to get a behind-the-scenes look at the power of OPNET Technologies’ NetMapper –  without having to spend anything upfront – may be eager to find out more about OPNET’s latest promotion.

Currently, the network diagramming leader is offering free sample diagrams generated by NetMapper to anyone who requests it. OPNET’s NetMapper reduces the cumbersome effort associated with network diagramming by automatically publishing up-to-date network diagrams containing detailed physical and logical views, including Layer 2/3, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VLANs, and BGP. NetMapper creates rich, multi-layered network diagrams in the industry standard Microsoft (News - Alert) Visio format, according to company officials.
