Sistema (News - Alert) Shyam Teleservices, which operates telecom services under the MTS brand in India, announced it has extended the current managed services contract with Ericsson (News - Alert) in India.

As part of this extension, the company has added four new circles of CDMA wireless networks and signed a new three-year contract including the management of fiber transport and wireline networks in Rajasthan.

Under the terms of the three-year contract, Ericsson will offer network optimization, operations and maintenance services including field operations and 24/7 network service assurance, and fulfillment network service provisioning, customer problem management and spare parts management.

Prior to this, SSTL awarded a managed services contract to Ericsson in September 2010 to manage their multi-vendor wireless networks in two circles, Delhi and Haryana.

The extended partnership signifies the cost and quality improvements that SSTL already realized in the network, according to company officials.

"Strengthening our existing relationship with Ericsson, we have entrusted them with the responsibility of managing an additional four circles along with the management of our largest fiber transport and wireline networks,” said Vsevolod Rozanov, president & CEO, SSTL, in a statement. “This association is expected to further enhance our efficiencies and ensure quality service for our customers."

Ericsson is expanding its relationship with SSTL in three directions: time, geography and scope, said Magnus Mandersson, head of Ericsson's Services business. “For the first time in India, we will manage fiber transport and wireline networks. We welcome the employees who join us and we look forward to setting new standards of network performance for SSTL.”

As part of this partnership, Ericsson India will absorb 200 SSTL employees in Rajasthan.  Also, Ericsson will be operating MTS' (News - Alert) wireless networks in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Recently SSTL announced that the MTS brand has won over 12 million users in India. The company also announced that the number of mobile broadband Internet subscribers has reached 800 thousand in more than 150 of the largest cities in India.

In related industry news, consumers wanting to get a behind-the-scenes look at the power of OPNET Technologies’ (News - Alert) NetMapper – without having to spend anything upfront – may be eager to find out more about OPNET’s latest promotion.

Currently, the network diagramming leader is offering free sample diagrams generated by NetMapper to anyone who requests it. OPNET’s NetMapper reduces the cumbersome effort associated with network diagramming by automatically publishing up-to-date network diagrams containing detailed physical and logical views, including Layer 2/3, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VLANs, and BGP.
