Openet (News - Alert), a provider of high performance transaction management software for network operators, recently launched Openet Labs with the intention to carry out new research and also design and develop new services and business models.
Some of the new innovations that Openet Labs fostered are new standards such as Sy interface between the Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) and online charging system (OCS), new business models such as those enabled by subscriber engagement and also the Interaction Gateway that can enable operators to control signaling storm caused by chatty apps.
Joe Hogan (News - Alert), the CTO of Openet, will be leading the Openet Labs, whose objective is to chart new means for operators to transform the way people machines and services interact with their networks. Hogan was also the founder of Openet and has been serving in the board for more than a decade. Apart from running Openet Labs, he is also in charge of the company’s Intellectual Property Management group. Hogan has prior experience serving as a senior architect at Sun Microsystems (News - Alert) and has a B.S. in Computer Applications degree from Dublin City University.
“Openet Labs is an environment in which the best minds work together to generate and nurture new ideas that could help our industry solve technical or business problems. This innovation is crucial as operators evolve their businesses to meet the needs of a extremely dynamic and unpredictable market”, said Hogan, in a statement.
Openet Labs should provide a broad ecosystem for innovation, including prominent academics within an Openet Research Fellows program and also to third party technology providers and researchers. Apart from possessing vast expertise in real-time transaction management software, Openet also provides insight, monetization and control to the world’s largest and most complex networks.
In related news, Openet’s Engagement Engine bridged gap between operators and subscribers and Openet upgraded to preferred solution developer in Cisco Developer Network.
