Fluke Networks (News - Alert) has unveiled that the AirMapper App, the first application for Android that provides a visual heat map of WiFi network throughput performance on smartphones and tablets. Existing solutions can map speed and signal strength or perform throughput spot checks, but the AirMapper App provides a visual throughput map, which optimizes WiFi (News - Alert) networks by taking the user experience into account.

Fluke Networks, a provider of network test and monitoring solutions to speed the deployment and improve the performance of networks and applications, gives enterprises and service providers products and expertise to help solve the most challenging issues in WLAN security, mobility, unified communications (UC) and data centers.

"As more of our customers rely on personal and business-issued compact wireless devices, there's increased pressure to deliver the same throughput and performance they experience on other network devices,” said Wil Ankerstjerne, director of wireless networking at Computer Design & Integration, LLC, in a statement. “The AirMapper App provides a cost effective, professional-grade, simply-to-use tool I can deploy to my entire team who can then map signal strength and throughput – without having to use a 'specialized resource.'”

Despite BYOD growth, a Fluke Networks market study has shown that many organizations are not ready to address workplace performance challenges with mobile devices. According to the study, almost 82 percent of organizations allow employees to use personal mobile devices on the WLAN. However, 51 percent are concerned with how BYOD will affect bandwidth consumption. Still, less than half of these organizations plan to redesign their wireless networks to meet the new performance expectations associated with mobile devices, despite the 42 percent of end users being concerned with slow connections.

With AirMapper, organizations can bridge this performance gap and design wireless networks that meet expectations.

Additionally, the AirMapper App provides details of the Wi-Fi network, including access point (AP) channel, signal and security properties, to ensure the delivery of critical business applications. It also allows users to locate any AP on a floor map, and add text, photo, audio or video annotations during the site survey. The AirMapper App also allows the export of the site survey projects to AirMagnet (News - Alert) Survey PRO via email, Dropbox, Evernote, and Bluetooth for streamlined information sharing and advanced reporting.

Chia-Chee Kuan, vice president of the Fluke Networks WLAN business unit, said, "Making it possible to see and optimize the actual throughput performance of Wi-Fi networks for smart devices is absolutely this product's sweet spot for our customers."
