Network performance management (NPM) ensures the consistent performance of critical customer applications. Network diagramming is an important component of NPM as it provides deep insight into a customer’s dynamic network infrastructure.
According to a recent report from Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) that analyzes the growth of NPM globally, North America holds the largest market share in the global NPM market with 56 percent in 2012, followed by Europe and the Asia Pacific.
Some of the key factors that drive the demand for NPM applications include hybrid-cloud infrastructures and comprehensive customer services experience monitoring. On the other hand, lack of end-user awareness for educating customers about the nature of their needs, current legacy approaches and IT organizational boundaries are restraining the demand for NPM.
Key players in the network performance management and network diagramming market include CA Technologies, NetScout (News
- Alert) Systems, IBM, HP, and OPNET.
Additionally, the analysis finds that NPM industry is facing a key challenge to provide comprehensive monitoring, analysis, and transaction visibility across the entire infrastructure that includes networks, servers, and database. And the network performance management industry now is now transitioning to a more unified approach in order to understand the user experience more effectively.
The network performance management market is mainly driven by the increasing need of a more unified perspective of the server rather than individual monitoring features, Frost & Sullivan said. Researchers also feel there is a need to look at the network and applications together to be able to get the needed performance matrix.
The research reveals that acquisition is a key strategy for growth. Moreover, integration into broader platforms and network performance monitoring and management solutions is important to customers. The industry also needs ways to simplify management of network monitoring end-to-end across cloud based infrastructure environment to eliminate additional tools.
Major growth opportunities in network performance monitoring are expected to emerge from the healthcare and retail sectors in the not so distant future, the report added.
For this analysis, Frost & Sullivan divided the network performance management market in two segments: distributed environments and evaluation laboratories. Companies that stand out in the market and differentiate a quality product offering from the competition are providing a unified, holistic solution.
