SolarWinds Enhances Network Performance Monitoring and Diagramming with Routing and Multicast Monitoring

SolarWinds (News - Alert), a provider of IT and network performance monitoring and diagramming solutions, has unveiled new capabilities for SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM), enabling IT professionals to gain enhanced capabilities to address growing network complexity, reduce errors and save time.

The announcement comes just a few weeks after the company added new network diagramming capability in its network management portfolio. The new network diagramming product coined the SolarWinds Network Topology Mapper, is a network mapping, discovery and inventory solution that helps IT managers gain quick visual monitoring overview of their networks in the form of map presentation and varied data displays.

With the new network diagramming product and the enhanced NPM capabilities, SolarWinds is entering aggressively in the network performance monitoring market dominated by key players like OPNET.

The new SolarWinds NPM offers powerful network fault, interface availability and performance indicators such as bandwidth utilization, packet loss, latency, errors, discards, CPU, and memory for SNMP- and WMI-enabled device.

Thanks to the new network route and multicast monitoring capabilities found in SolarWinds NPM, organizations can simplify detection, diagnosis and resolution of network issues before outages occur. The solution can also identify new network devices and ensure monitoring of all critical equipment.

Topology and dependency-based alert suppression enables users to escalate alerts for issues that are truly critical. The new network monitoring also supports heterogeneous networks with out-of-the-box device support for devices from leading hardware vendors.

Moreover, SolarWinds NPM provides real-time network route information alongside device status and performance statistics. It supports major routing protocols including RIP v2, OSPF v2, and BGP, allowing IT professions to view routing tables and change in default routes.

The new network monitoring solution also includes advanced interface filtering by hardware type, name, VLAN and more for importation of new nodes and interface; and interface auditing.
