mDialog Online Video Platform Announces Support for the Roku Player

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

mDialog announced its support for the Roku player, a move that is supposed to extend the reach of the company’s full-featured in-stream ad and online video platform for iOS devices to the Over the Top (OTT) market.

The mDialog platform is a real-time, Video as a Service (VaaS) solution that provides video publishers and advertisers a suite of in-stream ad services for mobile devices. Mobile devices are inherently individual and with mDialog, each mobile device is a uniquely addressable market. The company’s targeting techniques allow users to deliver the content the audience wants with the brand message that is relevant to them, dynamically and in real-time.

Video ad pods delivered to the Roku player using mDialog's real-time in-stream video ad solution will just be the same as the traditional linear commercial break that viewers usually watch on TV. Broadcasters and premium video publishers currently monetizing their videos on iOS devices via mDialog, can now do the same on Roku. They need not alter or update their ad ops workflow.

“We're very excited to extend our in-stream ad platform to the leading OTT device. When Roku rolled out support for HTTP Live Streaming, we moved quickly to bring our HLS based solution for in-stream ad delivery to their platform,” said mDialog founder, Greg Philpott, in a press release. “Because mDialog is tuned for HLS, we can now offer publishers looking to reach the Roku audience with VOD and Live streaming a powerful yet easy to use in-stream ad solution.”

The company asserted that publishers and advertisers can keep track of ad pod and live stream performance using the mDialog Platform’s real-time analytic tools, all of which can be augmented by mDialog’s ability to integrate with analytics services like Nielson and ComScore.

Roku player is a small device that streams movies, TV shows, music, and other entertainment to your TV via the Internet. Since Roku streams (rather than downloads) video, it provides instant access to a huge library of entertainment without having to use a computer or store files locally on a hard drive.

Officials with Roku explained that as more and more publishers are making their long-form video content available on the Roku player, they want the ability to monetize their programming via real-time ad insertion. The mDialog in-stream ad platform offers publishers a way to do that, and by using the HLS technology mDialog provides a seamless viewing experience.
