According to a recent announcement by Sorenson Media, Comtrend Corporation, a global provider of advanced network products has licensed the Sorenson Spark video decoder for inclusion in the company’s new line of set top boxes for Swiss Telecom.

The decoder from Sorenson enables the playback of hundreds of millions of videos on the Internet, including those on YouTube (News - Alert).

According to the agreement, Sorenson Spark will enable the set top boxes to play the widest selection of videos available on the Internet.

“With this new line of set top boxes, we aim to give our consumers the best possible features—which includes complete access to the widest array of Internet video,” said Robert Yao, vice president of Comtrend (News - Alert), in a press release. “With Sorenson Spark, we can provide our users with Internet video that is not available through any other video codec.”
