By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
Multisource, a wireless service provider in South Africa and XConnect (News - Alert), have announced a partnership to help South African service providers leverage opportunities available in the telecommunications market in the country.
The partnership between XConnect, which specializes in interconnection and carrier ENUM-registry services, and Multisource, is known as XConnect South Africa and according to company officials, is expected to form a multilateral peering federation which will enable operators to use advanced VoIP and next-generation or NGN peering capabilities through an in-country interconnection hub.
Also the federation will offer a simple way to exchange traffic within South Africa and on a global scale cost effectively, said officials.
XConnect South Africa will bring together Multisource's market experience and network capability and XConnect's capabilities in multimedia interconnection and carrier ENUM registry services. The complete suite of XConnect's Interconnect 2.0 services will be deployed. This will enable operators to interconnect their networks and route calls seamlessly via a scalable, multilateral interconnection hub.
Multisource CEO Richard Smuts-Steyn also said, "With the proliferation of IP and VoIP players, the complexities and associated costs of interconnecting operators and telecommunication networks have become central concerns for South African service providers. To compete successfully in our country's emerging telecoms market, operators need a secure and scalable point of interconnection and the comprehensive services our federation will offer."
