By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

A hosted private branch exchange (PBX (News - Alert)) uses the Internet to place and receive calls through hardware that is located off-site and managed by a VoIP provider and is a service is supplied by a telecommunications provider in the form of a hosted phone. Recently, these services have begun making headway in the business, and more specifically in the call center, along with marketing world, and have become a lead replacement for traditional phone systems.

PBX systems helps businesses avoid wasting space or money on maintenance, along with variety of features that are offered for call management that have encouraged small to mid-sized businesses owners to move from PSTN. There are a substantial amount of products available on the market, like communications provider Power Net Global’s hosted IP PBX solution that offers innovative features and an array of calling unlimited calling plans to meet the needs of each individual business. With a hosted solution, businesses can have a large phone system without any physical equipment or IT staff onsite, as the provider, and in this case, Power Net Global, which was recognized as a Top 10 Allworx (News - Alert) Reseller in 2012 and is projected to make the list again in 2013.

Recently, a report published by Tele-Quote.com, a provider of online quotes for business communication systems, identified these key benefits of such a system such as its telecommunication capabilities. With a PBX system in place, agents can conveniently work from any location and make calls as seamlessly and effortlessly as if they were in a physical office, rather than a virtual one. For employees on-the-go, this system allows them to stay connected and participate in conference calls, check their voicemail and e-mail and send faxes.

A PBX system is also a more cost-efficient way for a business to complete its daily operations, as it is an affordable system to implement and maintain. It eliminates the need for multiple vendors as anything from calling to faxing can done with a hosted system in place, making it a long-term investment rather than just an upfront cost. It is also drastically cheaper for a business to expand, as it requires no physical equipment to be purchased, rather another line added in the virtual space.

There is nothing that a PBX can’t do that a traditional phone system can, and in fact, it created even more opportunities to enhance productivity. One of them is by simply making it possible for employees to have remote access no matter where they are. For organizations that are in the midst of being developed, or for those that are established and are interested in switching over, it is important to understand the benefits of a hosted PBX system before making a decision.
