Aicent, a provider of IP eXchange (IPX) and LTE (News - Alert) roaming services for global mobile operators, has successfully tested Voice over LTE (VoLTE) interworking and roaming between two labs in China and Europe during the RCS VoLTE 2012 event. The testing was backed by major operators China Mobile, Telecom Slovenia and Verizon (News - Alert) and focused on validating key network interfaces as well as functions, and ensuring multivendor deployment strategies for RCS VoLTE technology.
RCS is changing the way people communicate by delivering an experience beyond voice and SMS by providing them with instant messaging or chat, live video and file sharing across any device or any network, with all the joyn-enabled contacts in their address books. The GSMA (News - Alert) has established a market-leading Rich Communication Service that is interoperable across all operators. Joyn, a message, video chat and syncing service based on the RCS standard, is available now and offers richer yet simpler communication services. It is supported by a strong ecosystem: new mobile devices from the top Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) supplied with native clients; downloadable apps and a variety of architecture implementation options.
Looking to develop an effective RCS VoLTE interworking and roaming between the two identified testing locations in China and Europe, Aicent was able to successfully facilitate connections utilizing its Diameter Routing Platforms (DRP) for LTE roaming, in addition to tapping its Aicent IPX voice platform, including SIP proxy and media gateway for IMS roaming and interworking.
Aicent’s Diameter Routing Service, enabled by a powerful Diameter platform, is designed to help alleviate the challenges operators will face while transitioning to an all IP network by offering a robust solution that incorporates scalability, security, routing and subscriber roaming management. With superior traffic management and load balancing capabilities, Aicent’s Diameter solution is uniquely equipped to help control the impending data surge and signaling storm while reducing operator expenses.
Enabled by Aicent’s QoS IPX Transport network, SIP proxy and Aicent’s service management suites, packet voice interworking, including VoLTE interworking, has been successfully developed as an IPX Voice service under Aicent’s IPX framework. Supported by key features from Aicent’s IPX LTE data roaming service, Aicent’s IPX facilitates VoLTE roaming in addition to VoLTE interworking for mobile operators.
“The RCS VoLTE Interoperability event reflects the MSF’s commitment to carrier-driven interoperability events that validate key emerging standards and technologies, including key network interfaces that ensure multi- vendor deployment strategies for RCS/LTE/EPC/IMS technology. We are pleased that Aicent participated at the 2012 event,” said Kyu-Ouk Lee, MSF president, in a statement.
