Today, consumers are demanding LTE (News - Alert) services anytime, anywhere; along with these demands comes the increased demand for bandwidth. All along, mobile operators have had a tough time ensuring that subscribers have a consistent, high quality LTE roaming experience, but not any longer as the LTE roaming peering agreement between iBasis, a KPN (News - Alert) company, and Telekom Austria Group shows.
“Through partnerships with proven providers we are expanding our reach and making the global LTE roaming experience a reality,” noted Stefan Amon, director wholesale of Telekom Austria Group (News - Alert).
The current agreement leverages the companies’ existing GRX peering agreement as well as each company’s IP eXchange, which according to Willem Offerhaus, CEO at iBasis (News - Alert), benefits “the entire mobile communications community from subscribers to operators to solution providers and application developers.”
As a group operator with a strong history in signaling and transport, the Telekom Austria Group has in-depth knowledge about the needs of mobile operators. This, coupled with the iBasis’ LSX helps provide secure, high quality connectivity to mobile operators and other providers.
“Peering with qualified partners that share that vision, like Telekom Austria Group, enables us to expand our global LTE Roaming footprint and offer additional destinations quickly and efficiently,” observed Amon.
Typically, mobile operators deploy infrastructure to enable secure and seamless LTE roaming, but this invariably drives up costs and delays time to market. The alternative- having connectivity to other mobile LTE operators across the world- is something that iBasis LTE signaling exchange (LSX) seems to be taking care of.
iBasis LSX allows mobile operators to connect to hundreds of other operators through a single interconnect. Through direct connections to many mobile operators’ LTE networks and through peerings with other providers, the iBasis global LTE roaming footprint can reach more than 100 LTE networks.
Thus in addition to providing the shortest route to realize secure roaming revenues, time needed to achieve a roaming footprint is minimized and time to market is accelerated.
End-users have a consistent, high-speed mobile data experience that accelerates LTE adoption. In addition, the iBasis LSX also offers a trial environment for testing LTE roaming scenarios and VoLTE. Operators can maximize roaming profits, while customers will experience best-in-class global connectivity.
Telekom Austria Group reports that approximately 23 million retail customers will benefit enormously from these enhanced services.
